Sources say that David Stern will let Shannon Brown dunk in February. Nice to know we have a dunker reppin’ purple and gold in this years dunk contest hosted at Dallas.

Get this, “Shannon Brown posses one of the highest vertical leaps in the NBA at 44.5 inches.”

Bring it on LeBron.

The Laker Nation: The Los Angeles Lakers announced today that an additional game has been added to their preseason schedule. The Lakers will host the Golden State Warriors at 7:00pm on October 9 at the Forum in Inglewood, CA.

As part of the Lakers 50th Anniversary in Los Angeles, fans will get an opportunity to see the 2009 NBA Champions play in the arena which was home to the Lakers for over 30 years (1967-1999) and was the site of six NBA Championships (1972, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987 and 1988).

Tickets for the game will go on sale at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 12. Tickets will be sold at Ticketmaster outlets, online at ticketmaster.com, and available by phone at 1-800-4-NBA-TIXS. Tickets are priced at $13, $24, $34, $40, $58, $85.50, $103 and $133.

I will most definetly be there.

Ariza Who?

2 07 2009

My cousin once told me, “the Lakers need someone with an edge, someone that other teams will be intimidated to foul.” Well cousin… I think we got one. Trevor Ariza bailed on us but hey, we got a better all around player. Someone who actually made a name for himself throughout his career rather than someone who just had a good playoff run this past season. In my opinion, Trevor’s not going to amount to shit in Houston. His game play just fit in with the Lakers.

There are plenty of reasons why we got the better deal in this swap. First off, an obvious reason, better player, less money. We also now have a stopper against players like Lebron, Paul Pierce, etc. Kobe can now focus more on getting his teammates involved and score occasionally. I say occasionally because Ron can score, Pau can score, once Andrew comes off his rag, he can score. Not to mention Lamar Odom, we can still sign him! Lebron & Shaq got nothing on us. Seriously, they really dont.

Laker fans, heres a preview of what Ron Artest can bring to the table this upcoming season:

LO’s Life in a Nutshell

The Laker Nation: Lamar Odom, whose father was addicted to heroin, whose mother died of colon cancer when he was 12,  who attended three high schools, had his first college scholarship revoked before the fall semester of his freshman year, became a subject of three college investigations, declared for the NBA draft, tried unsuccessfully to pull out of the draft, was picked by arguably the worst franchise in sports, violated the league’s antidrug policy twice within eight months and after finally getting his life together, went home to New York City for an aunt’s funeral and wound up burying his 6½-month-old son, then getting robbed at gunpoint.

“That’s my book,” says Lamar Odom. “That’s my movie. It’s a big bowl of gumbo.”

This guy has had it tough. All the trade rumors & family deaths he has gone through. Recently, he hasnt picked up the scoring slack thats needed due to Andrew Bynum’s injury but if you look closely, his rebounding is monstrous. If your an avid Laker fan, you may have heard of Lamar being incosistent at times but if you look at his season by season average, he’s pretty damn consistent to me. I know I know people always say that he CAN be the most versatile player in the league but damn, what else can you ask from him? He averages almost 11 a game and 8 rebounds, let alone his solid defense. I’m going to take a guess that the past maybe 10 games, he’s probably averaging 12 rebounds a game or close to that. We as Laker fans don’t give this guy the respect he needs. Having said that, Kudos Lamar.

Game Day With Kobe Bryant

So what’s a day in the life of NBA MVP Kobe Bryant like? When he’s not dunking on the court or jumping over a moving car, Ashton Martin to be exact, he’s just himself, Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant and ESPN have teamed up with “He Got Game” director Spike Lee to produce “A Day in the Life” of Kobe Bryant. I believe it drops in May 2009. Can’t wait.

The “Los Lakers” are Back

Throughout March, the Lakers will be wearing jerseys that say “Los Lakers,” as part of the NBA’s third annual Noche Latina event, a program that recognizes the NBA’s fans and players from across Latin America and U.S. Hispanic communities.

Noche Latina, first launched during the 2006-07 season, will feature celebratory uniforms, which display the team name as spoken by the Latino population. Rather than translating the team names literally, market research concluded that Spanish-speakers in the U.S. refer to them differently. The Miami Heat, for example, is called “El Heat”; the San Antonio Spurs are “Los Spurs” and the Lakers as “Los Lakers.” Noche Latina uniforms were selected based on the teams that were most popular within the Hispanic population.

Therefore, Noche Latina will take place in Los Angeles, Miami, Phoenix, San Antonio, Dallas, Chicago, Houston and New York.

The jerseys are for sale for $80 at Champs Sports stores in L.A. and online at NBAStore.com.

Only on thelakernation.com/blog folks.
